Mitchell Carlson, with photos by Brad Bowling. After World War II, our former Soviet Union allies soon became Cold War nemeses, especially by the time they detonated their first atomic weapon in 1949. All-out nuclear war was now a real possibility, and being able to recover after an attack became a major concern throughout the United States. By the mid-1950s, it was becoming obvious that communities large and small were not equipped for the aftermath of a nuclear attack—or even major natural disasters.

The boy was Eldon Hostetler, and the car belonged to a young man helping his father harvest corn on the family farm.

2017 Vintage Truck Magazine Show Wrapup

SHOW WRAPUP - Our 16th Annual Vintage Truck Magazine Truck Show proved to be our biggest one yet. We had more than 200 vehicles exhibit at the show. Visitors came from Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Michigan, Indiana, and Florida; our Longest Distance Driven winner, Jim Zarnoch, drove his 1956 Ford F-100 478 miles from Corfu, New York, to attend. We would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us at the show. We hope you all had fun, like we did. We would also like to thank Young’s Jersey Dairy, Angela Rayner, and Dan Young for their immense help.
